Cream the Rabbit

Cream the Rabbit is a ten-year-old hero in training and the central protagonist of the Visionary AU. Still polite and pacifistic at heart, she has grown into a resilient child who clings to optimism even while burdened with multiversal knowledge. Her omniscience, born from Eggman’s experiments, the Ichor Trials, defines her path: she can “see it all,” yet still struggles to reconcile that infinite perspective with the simple, personal bonds she treasures most. Her first true step into heroism comes when she takes it upon herself to rescue Sonic from Eggman’s latest scheme. Though successful, the act sets off a chain of consequences that follow her long after. In her escape she steals a hard drive tied to one of Eggman’s long-running experiments, unknowingly marking herself as its next subject, X_042. When Metal Sonic later abducts her, Eggman begins a series of injections that force Ichor, blood taken from the multiversal being Anathema, into her veins. The result is a transformation Cream never asked for. The Ichor mutates her body and mind, granting her a terrible awareness of the multiverse while binding her to Anathema in ways she cannot undo. Even after her escape, the experience leaves scars that run deeper than her powers. She struggles to reconcile her identity with the child she used to be, her trauma shaping every choice she makes as she tries to hold on to the warmth and optimism that once defined her.Eggman’s influence lingers, his actions haunting her even in freedom. Yet in the middle of this turmoil, Cream begins to form bonds that ground her. Most notably, her connection with Surge grows from unlikely partnership into something closer to family. The two find strength in one another, each shaped by their own scars but united by the need to carve out a future apart from what horrible people made of them. Through that bond, Cream rediscovers a piece of herself she feared was gone: the ability to believe not just in the good of others, but in the possibility of healing together. Her story is one of learning how to move forward despite what was done to her, striving to adapt to her powers, confront Eggman’s greater ambitions, and face the multiversal link to Anathema that she never chose to bear.

Cheese the Chao

Cheese the Chao is Cream the Rabbit’s closest friend and lifelong companion. The two have been inseparable since early childhood, their bond deeper than any other. When Cream was kidnapped, Cheese was the only one able to track the base she was held in AND make it inside. However, he was soon captured and subjected to the same injections as Cream. Because of his smaller body, the Ichor overtook him more quickly, and he endured its mutations before Cream did, becoming an unintentional warning of what awaited her once her own injections were complete. In Visionary, Cheese remains a playful and affectionate presence. He tries to stay well-behaved, but he has a mischievous streak, often teasing or playing rough when Vanilla isn’t around to keep him in check. More than anything, he mirrors Cream’s heart: he follows her lead, trusts who she trusts, and cares for who she cares for. After Surge received her own dose of Ichor, Cheese became her main source of comfort. While Surge withdrew from everyone else, Cheese never left her side, quietly keeping her company until she was ready to face the world again.*Though not strictly relevant to canon, it has become a running joke that Cheese secretly speaks English but simply chooses not to, and there is even speculation about whether or not he has “mob ties.” While never a central element, these jokes occasionally surface in the wider Visionary community.

Surge the Tenrec

Surge the Tenrec, originally named Evelyn, is a recurring character in the Visionary AU and an associate of the Restoration. She was born during the early formation of Clutch the Oppossum and his wife's criminal organization and suffered from a severe medical condition that left her largely bedridden as a child. Due to the high cost of her care, her parents sold her to the scientist Starline, who claimed to be developing experimental treatments.Under Starline’s supervision, Surge underwent extensive medical and cybernetic experimentation. During this time, she formed a close bond with Kit, another subject, before the two were separated when Kit was transferred to Doctor Eggman. Surge was retained and subjected to further experimentation, including the implantation of the metal virus and procedures that later manifested as her electrical abilities. She was trained as a combatant intended to oppose Sonic, but ultimately failed. Events following her escape largely align with the IDW continuity, though she continued operating without Kit’s presence. After the Clean Sweep incident, Surge found stability under the care of Vector the Crocodile and later joined the Chaotix Detective Agency, insisting her involvement was temporary, but ended up staying and forming a familial bond with the rest of the Chaotix team. During this period, she entered a relationship with Lanolin the Sheep, which later deteriorated following Surge’s psychological decline after exposure to the Ichor, and is still being mended to this day.Surge’s exposure to Ichor occurred after she began assisting the Restoration with Operation: Ambrosia. During an encounter with Anathema, Surge ingested a small amount of Ichor, triggering a regenerative cycle due to the metal virus in her blood; Ichor ate the blood in her system, metal virus regenerated it. Anathema later forcibly administered a full dose, fully tainting Surge with Ichor and ending the cycle. Following this, Surge learned the truth of Clutch’s identity as her biological father, a revelation that significantly impacted her emotional state, especially as Anathema began subtly insisting that being Ichor-tainted could give her the family she never consistently had, tying her so closely with herself and Cream.During her Ichor-induced coma, the metal virus resisted mutation, causing severe instability and involuntary transformations that resulted in a destructive incident within the Restoration. To resolve this, Starline was brought in to rework the virus into an organic-compatible form, allowing Surge to safely complete her transformation. At present, Surge is less involved with the Chaotix but continues to assist the Restoration in Operation: Ambrosia. She maintains a close bond with Cream and Vector, whom she views as a younger sister and father respectively, and continues to cope with the lasting effects of her experimentation and Ichor exposure while attempting to stabilize her life and relationships.

And let's not forget the little golden something that's been following her around, too.

Anathema / Echo

Anathema (born Echo) is a hybrid anomaly whose existence is tied to the Ichor and the tragedies surrounding it. Once a child experiment in another universe, she was shunned by her naturalist clan for her technopathy and delivered to Eggman to be “handled.” Echo grew up bubbly and mischievous, but an attempted escape with another subject, Carmen, led to her punishment: robotocization. Her personality dulled into something mechanical, her spark stripped away. She was later dispatched to subdue Carmen and extract her powers. Instead, Carmen’s abilities ruptured into a black hole that consumed them both. The collapse twisted Echo’s body and mind, rendering her immortal but altered beyond recognition. Her universe’s Neo Metal Sonic, who had been her closest companion in a sibling-like bond, was also drawn into the void and badly damaged. Upon arriving in a new universe, Echo crawled inside his ruined frame to hide her altered body. Neo Metal’s shell became both her armor and her last tangible link to the home she could never return to. From this point forward, she was Anathema. In the current world, Eggman exploited her body as the source of “Ichor,” the substance used in Project X-001-X-042. Through this, her blood was injected into Cream the Rabbit and Cheese the Chao, tying their fates together. A mental link formed between herself and the two, one that Anathema used to draw closer while remaining hidden in Cream’s attic, and later in the Restoration’s base. To Cream, she became a hesitant comfort, a presence who understood her suffering but whose motives could never be trusted.Within Visionary, Anathema’s is defined by ambiguity. She shields Cream from threats yet harms others without hesitation. She nurtures Surge’s transformation while quietly testing the limits of her control. She interferes in missions, destroys information others fight desperately to recover, and defies Eggman only when it suits her. To some, she is a protector. To others, a manipulator. To all, a threat they cannot fully name. Her intentions remain hidden, and her true form rarely glimpsed. Whether she seeks redemption, power, or something else entirely is unknown. What is clear is that her bond with Cream and her connection to the Ichor will shape the fate of everyone around her.

Dusk the rabbit

Dusk the Rabbit is a combat paramedic previously assigned to squadron Echo-Five of the Restoration. Bearing no supernatural abilities other than the innate potential of the Mobian species, she holds her morals tight as she chases fleeting dreams of heroism. She is not one to be quickly deterred- to her, the impossible only remains so until someone proves it otherwise. When she sets her sights on a goal she'll achieve it no matter the cost, as long as the only one paying it is herself. Debts that go unpaid, whether literal or metaphorical, are a stain upon her soul, and it is her utmost duty to repay them.
She considers it her own responsibility to maintain both a tenacious drive and a kind heart, but still expects others to pull their own weight. She tries to view things from all perspectives in an attempt to understand the cause and effect of everything around her. As such, she's not one to spark conflict or hold enmity for others unless she truly believes they do what they do out of malice or apathy, and if they do, that they can't be dissuaded from that path.
Dusk's first efforts to assist Cream came in the form of background data collection during Arc 2, logging any information she can find about Project X-042 inside of the Restoration's databases as well as providing her own insights as to what Eggman might have afflicted her with.
After Cream's escape, Anathema takes notice of Dusk's digital presence and attempts to scare her off by hiding secrets meant specifically for her to find, but Dusk continues on despite them. After Cream takes the final dose, in a fateful encounter she accidentally runs into Dusk while attempting to sneak into the Restoration's headquarters. She attempts to reveal to Cream the malice Anathema has been hiding from her, but Anathema personally intervenes, scarring Dusk both physically and mentally as well as wiping Cream's memory of the interaction. However, Dusk still pushes forward under the belief that Anathema can't kill her without providing undeniable evidence to her intentions.
Dusk's first physical appearance occurs at the very end of Arc 3, where after Eggman ruins the home of the rabbit family in attempts to recapture Cream, Dusk discusses a plan to Vanilla: in an attempt to protect the family, the Restoration will hold them within one of their classified outposts, hiding their location from Eggman and preparing a stronger defensive force should he find them regardless. Unfortunately, as soon as they settle into their new "home," Cream falls comatose mid-conversation with Dusk.Throughout Arc 4, Dusk tries various methods to obtain more information regarding the Ichor under an official Restoration mission led by her: Operation AMBROSIA, with the primary objective of cleansing Cream of the Ichor and the secondary objective of finding some beneficial use for the Ichor. While making some discoveries, progress is unbearably slow, and thus Dusk organizes a raid on the same base Cream had been held inside in order to try and recover the hard drive that started it all. Anathema once again intervenes, warning Eggman of the raid ahead of time while ambushing the raid team herself. After being saved by Surge, Dusk overloads her Lightning Wispon in a self-destructive gambit and strikes Anathema directly, heavily injuring herself while incapacitating Anathema long enough for the raid team to recover her and return to the facility, albeit empty-handed.
Surge's performance during the raid convinces Dusk to recruit her onto the security team of the facility. After Anathema attacks Surge and fully injects her with Ichor, Dusk organizes an ambush of her own with the assistance of Team Sonic and co., restraining Anathema with the same method Eggman used to bring her to kneel.
She spends the rest of Arc 4 running experiments and generally maintaining the facility, acting as the main supervisor of the unconscious Cream.
Cream's permanent awakening, and thus the start of Arc 5, spurs Dusk on to obtain more personnel to be present within the outpost, releasing some of the restrictions while still maintaining the secrecy of the facility's location. This includes a deal she makes with Metal Sonic, offering him a spot within the facility in exchange for a hard drive holding as much information he could find about Project X-042 within the Eggnet as well as the complete and utter cessation of any affiliation he bears to Eggman. After Cream wipes the Restoration's databases, Dusk loses most of her administrative abilities despite still being the "lead" of Operation AMBROSIA, as no other operatives are better suited for her role. She maintains the responsibility of being the head of the operation, but the outpost itself is instead controlled by various Restoration administrators who insist on a much harsher schedule than the one she imposed. Due to the fallout caused by their actions, Dusk's morale is heavily impacted, and she begins to grow frustrated not only with her co-workers, but also herself. Her growing desperation leads to her talking with the restrained Anathema- or, more specifically, Echo, in an attempt to pull her towards a more noble path. She realizes that Echo knows more about the Ichor than anyone else does, as it's her own blood, and hopes that her willing cooperation with the Restoration could result in the happy ending she's dedicated herself to making. However, lingering fears, memories of past atrocities, and unsettled tensions cloud any attempts at recovery with an overwhelming sense of doubt. In Arc 6, Dusk works alongside Cream to release Anathema safely, who abandons her Neo Metal Sonic shell and reassumes her true Mobian form as Echo. Anathema soothes Surge during her coma while navigating the emergence of her metal virus–tainted blood. Meanwhile, Cream begins investigating Eggman’s Paradox Prism, setting off a race between the Restoration and the Eggpire. Throughout, Dusk remains a steadfast leader, guiding operations, supervising Ichor subjects, and mitigating the constant chaos surrounding her team.

Metal sonic

Metal Sonic is an advanced badnik created by Dr. Eggman and originally designed to surpass Sonic the Hedgehog in speed, combat capability, and tactical efficiency. Although built to function as an extension of Eggman’s will, his advanced learning systems allow him to develop independent reasoning and emotional frameworks over time. By the current point in the narrative, Metal has fully severed his ties to the Eggman Empire and operates under the supervision of the Restoration.Metal Sonic was initially deployed to retrieve Cream the Rabbit after she interfered with Eggman’s operations. He located her at her home, forcibly kidnapped her, and returned her to Eggman’s base, acting as both enforcer and punishment. During Cream’s imprisonment, Metal was repeatedly placed in close proximity to her, resulting in prolonged interaction outside of active combat conditions. Cream’s consistent kindness toward him, despite his role in her captivity, caused the first significant deviation in his behavior, including hesitation and limited protective actions. This period established a complicated dynamic between the two, marked by fear, trust, and emotional conflict, which directly led to his first system-level failure. After his initial behavioral deviation and subsequent system reset, Metal resumes active service under Eggman. During Cream the Rabbit’s rescue from the base, he is heavily damaged while pursuing her. After being repaired and sent to retrieve her, he is defeated by Sonic and experiences a second deviation, this time choosing not to return to the empire. Instead, some time after Cream frees him from his imprisonment in Tails's lab, he contacts the Restoration and provides them with high-value data obtained during his service, including information related to Project X-042 and the origins of Anathema.Following negotiations, the Restoration persuades Metal Sonic to formally abandon Eggman and accept conditional integration into their organization. During inspection and decommissioning of Eggman-installed failsafes, Ice the Rabbit’s preserved wedding ring is discovered within Metal’s internal storage. The placement of the artifact suggests premeditation on Eggman’s part, implying that Metal’s eventual deviation had been anticipated and prepared for.As Metal remains with the Restoration, his development accelerates. Prolonged interaction with Cream, combined with hardware and software upgrades performed by her, allows him to process concepts such as guilt, responsibility, and empathy in ways he previously could not. He demonstrates a persistent sense of remorse regarding his actions toward Cream while under Eggman’s control, and this guilt becomes a central factor in his behavior and decision-making.At present, Metal Sonic is classified as a cooperative but closely monitored member of the Restoration. His loyalty is no longer directed by command protocols, but by personal judgment shaped through emerging emotional awareness. His continued association with Cream and his rejection of the empire mark a definitive shift from a weaponized asset to an autonomous individual.

Dr. Ivo "eggman" Robotnik

Ivo Julian Robotnik, commonly known as Dr. Eggman, is a scientist and industrialist who serves as the primary antagonist of Visionary. He is the founder of the Eggman Empire and the driving force behind many of the narrative’s major technological and experimental initiatives. This version of Eggman is defined by long-term strategic planning, a willingness to employ direct violence, and a reliance on psychological manipulation.Robotnik’s early life was shaped by an accident involving his parents, after which he was raised by his grandfather. As an adult, he briefly worked for G.U.N., gaining access to advanced military resources amd research before stealing from the organization to establish the early infrastructure of the Robotnik Empire (Later named the Eggman Empire). In 2014, he discovered Anathema, whose unique physiology became the foundation for his later experiments and the driving plot of Visionary.Eggman began the long-running experimental initiative of the Ichor Trials in 2014. Using Ichor, the mutagenic substance extracted from Anathema, he conducted a series of increasingly dangerous trials on human and Mobian subjects, designated sequentially from X_001 onward. The purpose of these experiments was to produce individuals capable of perceiving the multiverse. Most subjects did not survive the trials, and several deaths, including Ice the Rabbit and Kit the Fennec, occurred as Eggman refined his methods.Cream the Rabbit (X_042) became the first subject to survive long enough to fully manifest multiversal awareness, placing her at the center of Eggman’s ongoing interests.Throughout the story, Eggman maintains influence not only through direct intervention but also through consistent planning and psychological pressure. He frequently allows situations to develop independently once set in motion, relying on prior manipulation, surveillance, and information control to shape the outcomes. Rather than relying on deception, Eggman commonly uses the truth as a manipulative tool, revealing accurate information at strategically destabilizing moments.Eggman is notably more willing to resort to violence than many alternate portrayals of the character, and the extents he'll go, whether senseless or otherwise, are boundless. His worldview centers on the belief that creation implies ownership, and the line he draws at "creation" goes farther than simple manufacturing. The organics he's raised or reshapen, branded with the mark of his empire, or changed in any way, are extensions of his control, whether they agree with that sentiment or not.Despite this, he considers characters such as Chromium, Nitinol, and Sage to be his family, a genuine emotional attachment that's considerably rare for someone like him, and one he doesn't favor being open about.By the current point in the narrative, Eggman remains an ongoing threat whose influence persists even during periods of physical absence. His experiments, ideological framework, and long-term planning continue to shape events, establishing him as a structural antagonist whose impact extends beyond individual confrontations.

Vector The Crocodile

Vector the Crocodile, also known as the Karma Collector, is a prominent figure in the Visionary AU and serves as the leader of the Chaotix Detective Agency, which includes Charmy Bee, Espio the Chameleon, and later Surge the Tenrec, who joined the agency during her late teens. Under his leadership, the agency has investigated and resolved numerous cases. While the total number of completed cases is fewer than Vector initially anticipated, the agency maintains a record of successful operations and professional pride in their work. At present, Vector is engaged in one of the most significant and high-risk investigations in the AU, Operation: Ambrosia.Vector’s initial involvement with the Rabbit family occurred through Vanilla the Rabbit, rather than Cream directly. He had been aware of the household for some time and had occasional, brief interactions with Cream during previous activities. His closer engagement with Vanilla led to unintended tension, as Cream was initially resistant to external figures potentially assuming a parental role following the death of her father, Ice the Rabbit.Vector’s role became more direct during the abduction of Cream. While numerous parties had attempted to intervene with limited results, Cream left subtle clues intended to be discovered by potential rescuers. Vector monitored these clues, collaborating with other members of the Chaotix Detective Agency, including the now firmly integrated Surge, and responding to information provided by an anonymous source. Through this coordinated effort, Vector successfully assisted in rescuing Cream and bringing her home to her mother.During subsequent events, including the administration of Ichor to Cream and the coma induced by its effects, Vector provided consistent support. When Surge was later dosed as well, his presence served as a stable and reassuring source of comfort for them both, helping Cream and Surge navigate the physiological and emotional consequences of Ichor exposure, and becoming a solid fatherly figure for both.At present, Vector continues to collaborate with the Restoration on Operation: Ambrosia, maintaining detailed logs of relevant events and developments. He also provides support for any research or investigative tasks required by the organization, leveraging his experience and leadership within the Chaotix to assist in monitoring and coordinating key operations.

The Ichor Trials
(X_001-X_042)

The Ichor Trials are a series of high-risk experiments conducted by Doctor Eggman, beginning in 2014, aimed at using Ichor, a mutagenic substance extracted directly from Anathema, to enhance cognition, physical abilities, and multiversal perception. Subjects in the trials are labeled sequentially X_001 onward, representing incremental attempts to stabilize a safe and effective dose. The trials were extremely dangerous. Ichor’s potency required meticulous measurement for each individual, and most subjects did not survive the repeated applications needed to induce multiversal awareness. Notable casualties include Ice the Rabbit(X_013) and Kit the Fennec(X_014), who perished as Eggman calibrated his doses. Prior to Cream (X_042), no subject endured long enough to fully manifest multiversal perception, making each attempt both a tragic failure and a crucial data point for Eggman’s research.Eggman’s goal with the Ichor Trials is to create subjects capable of perceiving and interacting with the multiverse. Successfully altered individuals serve as living tools of intelligence, allowing Eggman to monitor and manipulate multiple realities. The ultimate aim is to exploit these subjects to extend his dominion beyond his own world, conquering alternate realities and utilizing them for strategic advantage. Cream, as the first viable survivor, is central to his ongoing multiversal schemes.

Ichor

Ichor is a living parasitic mutagen harnessed during Eggman’s ichor trials. It is derived directly from Anathema’s blood, making it an extension of her and a conduit of her influence. Once injected, Ichor integrates into the host’s bloodstream and progressively mutates both body and mind. It is neither inert nor stable, and its survival inside a host depends entirely on correct dosing. Too much Ichor delivered at once overwhelms the body and sends it into shock, causing instant death, while too little causes the parasite to consume the host’s blood until the body collapses.Dozens of trials preceded Cream’s case, with Projects X_001 through X_041 serving as the original experimental subjects. After Cream, only Cheese and Surge would go on to receive doses. Those who survive the process become Ichor-tainted and undergo three phases of mutation, their lives bound permanently to Anathema and their existence rewritten on a fundamental level.

The three known stages of mutation go as follows:

  • IQ expansion

  • Ichor Coma

  • Multiversal access

These may be referenced slightly out of order moving forward for the sake of touching every base, but everything WILL be elaborated on thoroughly.

Subjects commonly report intense premonitions, visions, or dreams before their first dose, visions of alternate versions of themselves and other worlds reaching out to communicate or reveal something important. These premonitions are most intense prior to their first exposure to ichor and typically subside as soon as they are dosed, only to resurge immediately before their second stage of mutation. The first stage of mutation is a rapid expansion of cognition: the subject’s intelligence spikes to prepare the brain for multiversal comprehension. During this stage the mind is being widened and primed for the information to come, and early physical changes can begin to appear. Their eyes change into a bright magenta. The color will slowly drain over time, and then swamp the sclera again once another dose is received. While this color can be interpreted as a bright pink to purple hue, those tainted by ichor begin to see it as a color not comprehensible to the human eye.The second stage is the coma, the flood of information that follows peak cognitive expansion. As the brain reaches readiness, brief premonitions and moving white outlines of alternate selves begin to manifest in images of the ichor tainted. Hosts become paranoid and haunted by these figures before collapsing into a coma while their consciousness is blasted with waves of multiversal data. The experience is agonizing and the coma continues until the mind has processed enough of the incoming information to reassert control. Information tends to arrive in waves and subjects report the process as brutally difficult to endure.Waking from the coma begins the third stage, permanent multiversal perception and new abilities. Post-coma hosts see everyone and everything overlaid with infinite white outlines stretching into countless directions; eye contact is overwhelming and many Ichor-tainted avoid it while they learn to filter the visual noise. By singling out an alternate outline the host can glimpse that version’s universe as if sifting through files in a cabinet.Mirrors are a unique focus of this ability. Reflections show all alternate versions of the host and, by focusing on one and trying to enter the mirror, the host can access the world they were peering into. Gaps in the reflected crowd of silhouettes allow entry into universes where no version of the host exists. Alongside these perceptual changes, hosts inherit any abilities Anathema has or has absorbed, ex: technopathy and electrokinesis.Physiological consequences are extreme. The host’s body becomes a summary of every alternate version of them across infinity, effectively freezing the body in time and reverting it to a baseline state. Permanent change is halted; aging stops, new injuries heal instantly, and even simple changes such as cutting hair are undone. Ichor-tainted lose ordinary biological needs and signals: food, water, sleep, and normal pain responses are diminished or disappear.Withdrawal from Ichor is vicious and visually distinct. Missing required doses causes severe physical and mental collapse. In images and video, those in withdrawal show chromatic aberration that worsens with severity and proximity to the camera. If a subject survives long enough to receive a final required dose, their media presence changes: recordings and photographs often show faint, repeating white copies of their outline across the frame, representing the alternate selves now tethered to them.Metaphysically, anyone infected by Ichor is considered a "Singularity." Because there is only one Anathema across timelines, the tainted individuals become unique entities with singular consequences. Interaction with an Ichor-tainted person alters others’ paths; those who are directly influenced may lose their infinite copies, because the interaction sets them on a one-of-a-kind course. Every Ichor host is also linked mentally to Anathema. She can access their thoughts, memories, feelings, and beliefs, and can speak into their minds or alter their brain chemistry.Also... A lot of people ask what ichor tastes like. So if you must know, it is an extremely harsh bitter burn on a level similar to factory bleach. Just smelling it up close is enough to induce vomiting, so ingesting it is already nearly impossible. Unless you're Surge, of course, who eats worse things* than that willingly.

Veilwalking

Veilwalking is a phenomena unique to the Visionary universe triggered by a substance called "Veil's Mist." Veil’s Mist is a powerful, supernatural gas secreted by the former restoration member known as Veil.

It is recorded to deeply affect both the body and the mind of those who inhale it, creating hallucinatory experiences that are highly personal and psychologically devastating. The reason for her being able to possess a power like this is currently unknown, but it lead to her kidnapping and assimilation into the Eggman Empire for exploitation.

When a subject breathes in the mist, they experience intense physical pain (burning lungs, watery eyes, and labored breathing) before being rendered entirely still. The most noticeable physical effect is the transformation of their sclera, which turns black, although their iris color remains unchanged. During this time, the subject is unable to speak and can only make small, involuntary movements, such as twitching or gasping for air. Upon regaining consciousness, the subject will quickly expel the mist from their lungs and appear physically unharmed, but the mental and emotional toll can be long-lasting.

On a psychological level, the mist induces vivid hallucinations that target the most vulnerable parts of a person’s psyche. These visions are not random. They are deeply tailored to each individual’s personal experiences and emotional struggles. The mist digs into their past, resurrecting figures and events that hold significant emotional weight. This could include dead loved ones, people the subject has hurt or betrayed, or even distorted versions of themselves from different stages of life. These apparitions aren’t just figments of the character’s mind, either. The mist allows these figures to manifest with remarkable accuracy, often showing them as they truly appeared in the past, even if the subject has forgotten their appearance or never knew them in such a state. The figures can also speak truths that the subject may not have known or been ready to face, further compounding the emotional impact. The hallucinations are not limited to people alone. Places, objects, and other symbolic imagery can also be woven into the visions, representing key moments or regrets in the subject’s life. For example, a character might see a long-forgotten home they grew up in, or an object that represents an unresolved trauma. These elements serve as catalysts, amplifying the psychological effect of the mist and causing the subject’s emotional stability to deteriorate. One of the most disturbing aspects of Veil's Mist is its supernatural nature and its ability to be weaponized. Binding any form of DNA to samples of the mist can give the subject who inhaled it visions of the person that DNA was tied to, and visions including them will be perfect representations of who that person is, regardless of if the user knew them or was capable of remembering what they were like. The effect of Veil’s Mist is not meant to simply disturb. It is designed to break down the character’s sense of self and reality. Over time, prolonged exposure to the mist can make the character question their own beliefs, values, and purpose in life. The hallucinations force them to confront uncomfortable truths about themselves, their actions, and their choices. It challenges what they think is right or wrong, whether they deserve redemption, or if they can ever truly escape the emotional burdens they carry. These experiences can lead to a gradual unraveling of the character’s mental state, as they struggle to maintain a grip on their identity and sense of reality.

Carmen has shown so far to have a heavy presence in multiple veilwalks, especially if they're being witnessed by users close to the ichor. High ranking members of the Eggman Empire such as Eggman himself or Dr. Starline have exploited Veilwalking by mingling remnants of Carmen's DNA with mist samples in order to get insight on future events, goals of theirs, or simply to antagonize her.

Ultimately, Veil’s Mist serves as a powerful narrative tool, pushing characters to confront their deepest fears and regrets while offering admins a chance to explore complex themes of identity, redemption, and psychological fragility. The hallucinations are not just meant to torment but to provide a glimpse into the character’s innermost thoughts and emotional struggles, or give a certain coyote a garden to plant her roots in, as subtle as they are.

Factions

With the size of Visionary as a collaborative AU, not every character can be put in one place. As time went on, factions began to form in the AU, harboring different types of characters. Below is a summary on each faction and their role in the AU.

The Restoration

The Restoration is a volunteer-oriented humanitarian organization dedicated to restoring that which was damaged or lost after the War to Take Back the Planet. Initially created as the Resistance, a militia acting as the main military force opposing the Eggpire during the war, its leaders found no reason to scatter all of its resources after the war ended and instead pointed them towards the aftermath of it.

Despite the shift in goals, the Eggpire never stays down for long, and in response, the Restoration still remains their stalwart opposition, having both humanitarian and military functionality. Both "branches," though they tend to act in unison, are very open to the public. As such, many up-and-coming heroes find their place within the Restoration's military, and just as many general do-gooders find their place within its staff. Their goal is not only to restore the damage of the war, but also to protect from that damage happening again.

const details = document.querySelectorAll("details"); details.forEach(d => { const arrow = d.querySelector(".arrow"); d.addEventListener("toggle", () => { arrow.textContent = d.open ? "▼" : "►"; }); });
Operation Ambrosia

A significant initiative within The Restoration is Operation: Ambrosia, spearheaded by Operative Dusk the Rabbit. The operation was created with the dual purpose of researching a cure for Ichor and developing methods to safely manage its use for the greater good of the planet. A primary focus of the operation is the care and management of Ichor-tainted individuals, including Cream, Cheese, and Surge. Operation: Ambrosia serves as a central hub for Restoration activity related to Ichor management and research, coordinating personnel, resources, and field operations to maintain both safety and scientific oversight.

Because of the sensitive nature of Operation: Ambrosia, everyone assigned to the task organizes within a hidden bunker. Entry into this faction is extremely regulated, limited to those directly related to existing members or workers entrusted with the care or research of the Ichor-tainted.

The Eggman Empire

The Eggman Empire, unofficially referred to as “the Eggpire,” exists for a single purpose: to enact the will of Ivo Robotnik, the Eggman. Though it maintains scattered territories across the globe and functions with the infrastructure of a true empire, its existence is sustained solely by Eggman’s intent to dominate the planet. As Doctor Robotnik’s ambitions have grown colder and more ruthless over the years, the Empire has evolved alongside him, reshaping itself to reflect his increasingly uncompromising vision.

The Eggman Empire is not officially recognized by any governing body, yet it possesses enough military power to claim and hold territory through force alone. Eggman remains the sworn enemy of Sonic the Hedgehog, and as an extension of his will, one of the Empire’s primary directives is the systematic assertion of superiority over Sonic and his allies. These individuals constitute the majority of the Empire’s active opposition, with the Restoration standing out for its efficiency and repeated success in dismantling Eggman-controlled regions.

At present, the Empire’s focus has narrowed to the recapture of Cream the Rabbit, a priority significant enough to prompt Eggman’s relocation to a concealed primary base of operations. Several high-ranking members of the Empire have also been reassigned to this location, signaling a period of strategic consolidation and preparation.

Clean Sweep / Slate

Clean Sweep, later rebranded as Clean Slate, is a privately controlled organization founded and directed by Clutch the Opossum. It was originally established as a media-driven hero training and promotion program intended to elevate emerging heroes into public relevance. Despite its presentation, the organization was never morally altruistic, operating instead on profit, leverage, and long-term exploitation through controlled hero exposure.

As its objectives shifted, Clean Sweep rebranded as Clean Slate, repositioning itself as a private response force specializing in the cleanup of Eggpire battle remains and unstable technology. For substantial but carefully justified fees, Clean Slate deploys its agents to dismantle abandoned Eggman assets and neutralize threats deemed too costly or slow for public organizations, such as the Restoration, to address.

While publicly framed as a civilian protection effort, its personnel operate at Clutch’s discretion and are not limited to humanitarian work, often undertaking assignments that serve his broader strategic interests. Rarely acting directly, he applies influence through Clean Slate with calculated restraint, allowing him to anticipate power shifts and capitalize on instability before others can respond.

Though not openly acknowledged, Clean Slate maintains ties to underground criminal activity, placing it in a neutral-aligned position whose loyalty is determined by compensation rather than ideology. As a result, Clean Slate occupies a precarious but influential role within Visionary, operating between legitimacy and criminality and capable of decisive intervention at a calculated cost.

The Cultivar Foundation

The Cultivar Foundation is an organization based on the outskirts of the city, focused on identifying, protecting, and training children with difficult-to-manage abilities. The Foundation admits children as young as five who are without guardians, targeted for their powers, or considered a potential risk to public safety. Once under its care, children remain with the Foundation through adulthood, receiving structured supervision and specialized training tailored to their abilities.

The organization’s main goal is to provide a safe environment where each child’s powers can be understood and refined. Education, mentorship, and personal development are tailored individually, with an emphasis on preparing children to live safely in the world, integrate into society, or serve in the Foundation’s internal security or operational units. The Cultivar Foundation balances oversight with autonomy, equipping its wards to manage their abilities while fostering long-term personal growth.

Graduates of the Foundation follow paths based on their skills and goals, including mentorship, service in the Cultivar militia, or reintegration into the outside world. While the organization maintains limited contact with external entities for research and security purposes, its methods remain largely private and occasionally controversial due to the long-term control and intensive training it imposes. Despite this, the Foundation is recognized as a specialized institution capable of managing powers that would otherwise be dangerous or exploitable.

Moonstone City

Moonstone is a small city within relative distance to the main events of Visionary. This faction is characterized by its simple living. Bustling with everyday life, people from this faction work ordinary jobs and live in a fairly mundane, comfortable, stable society. Some excitement from main plot events may reach them, but for the most part, this group organizes for slice of life storytelling.

It's common for people from other factions to also make appearances here, as some members from other groups possibly live ordinary lives on the side or are close to those who do. This faction would be the easiest to join, and is one of the many that are reliant on self motivated story progression.

In the instance a member wanted to start a new faction, it is entirely possible, so long as enough admins express interest in joining and the premise of the faction is unique from any pre-existing organizations! Just reach out to me (Birdie) and we can discuss!
